Security Guard Cost in Mumbai: What Decides the Price and How to Compare Quotes

The monthly cost of a security guard in Mumbai is not one number. It depends on the shift pattern, the guard grade, statutory wages and contributions, supervision and the agency's margin. The safest way to judge any quote is to ask for it line by line.
This guide explains how a quote is built, which items a very low quote usually leaves out, and how to compare two or more agencies fairly. NTR Security Services does not publish a generic rate card, because the right plan depends on your site. We give a written, line-item quote after a free site survey and written quote.
What decides the cost of a security guard
- Shift pattern. An 8-hour post and a 12-hour post are priced differently, and a 24-hour post needs more than one person on payroll.
- Number of posts. Each gate, tower, basement or floor that must be covered at all times is a separate post.
- Guard grade. Unarmed, armed (where licence rules allow), female, supervisor and gunman posts carry different wages and training.
- Statutory wages and contributions. Wages must meet the state minimum for the category. The employer also pays EPF, ESIC and bonus where applicable.
- Weekly offs and relievers. A post that must be filled seven days a week needs relief cover for the guard's day off.
- Uniform, equipment and training. Uniform, ID, torch, register, radio or patrol clock, and induction training.
- Supervision. Field officers and the operations desk that check posts, handle absences and respond to incidents.
- Agency margin and tax. The management fee and GST as applicable.
Why one 24-hour post needs more than one guard
A guard cannot work every day of the week. If a gate must be covered round the clock, the agency needs separate people for each shift and extra people to cover weekly offs and leave. This is the most common reason a cheap quote looks cheap: it prices one person per shift and leaves out the reliever. The post then goes empty on the guard's off day, or the agency quietly stretches one guard across two shifts.
Items a very low quote often leaves out
- EPF and ESIC contributions, or contributions on part of the wage only.
- Relievers for weekly offs and leave.
- Bonus, leave encashment and uniform costs.
- Field supervision and a 24/7 operations desk.
- Training and police verification costs.
- A replacement-time commitment when a guard is absent.
If a quote is far below the others, ask which of these it excludes. A saving that shows up as an empty post or a compliance claim against you (as principal employer) is not a saving. See how to hire a security agency in Mumbai for more red flags.
A table to compare quotes fairly

How NTR prepares a quote
- A supervisor visits the site and notes gates, towers, parking, visitor traffic and peak hours.
- We propose a post plan and shift pattern in writing.
- You receive a line-item quote that shows wages, statutory contributions, relievers, supervision and fees.
- You can ask for compliance proof (see our compliance page and certificates) before you sign.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a security guard cost per month in Mumbai?
It depends on the shift pattern, guard grade, number of posts, statutory contributions, relievers and supervision. Ask each agency for a line-item quote after a site survey rather than comparing single headline numbers. NTR gives a written quote after a free site survey.
Why do two agencies quote very different prices for the same guard?
The cheaper quote usually leaves out some items, such as relievers for weekly offs, EPF and ESIC, supervision or bonus. Compare the line items, not only the total.
Who pays EPF, ESIC and bonus for the guards?
The agency pays them as the employer, and the cost is built into the quote. As the client you can ask for proof of contributions at any time.
Does a society or office pay extra for relievers?
A reliever is part of the cost of covering a post every day of the week. A fair quote shows it clearly instead of hiding it.
Can I get a quote without a site visit?
A site visit gives a more accurate quote because gates, parking and visitor flow change the number of posts. NTR does the survey free of charge.
